TYPE 1: Offers complete protection against gases, vapours and particles. Used in highly hazardous environments such as chemical laboratories or biohazard situations. Subtypes: 1a (with independent breathing system), 1b (with built-in breathing system), 1c (without breathing system).

TYPE 2 : High protection against liquid splashes and particles without being completely gas-tight.

TYPE 3: They provide a barrier against high pressure liquid jets and solid particles.

TYPE 4: Protects against liquid splashes and medium intensity solid particles.

TYPE 5: Offer protection against solid particles and hazardous dust. Commonly used in industrial environments.

TYPE 6: Provide basic protection against light splashes and sprays of non-hazardous liquids.
